Two Buddies

The one who dies with the most toys wins!

So far Lane is winning the contest but he has 30+ years head start on me in the machinist/hobbyist game.

Welcome to Two Buddies Website. My name is Monty Lenard and my buddy's name is Lane Sisson.  Lane is a full time machinist and I am a public accountant (retired 1/1/2006).  We met in January 2005 after I called Lane to ask about help constructing a hit & miss engine.  In our initial phone conversation, I could tell that Lane was somewhat skeptical when I told him that I was an accountant and not a machinist.  Lanes statement to me was "Well, I tried to help a guy one time but he was not much to work with."

I was not much to work with, but Lane is a patient guy and the finest machinist/craftsman I have ever had the pleasure to meet.  The unique thing about Lane is that he can not only do it but he can explain to a rookie how to do it.  He does such an excellent job of instructing that I am able to leave his shop, go to mine, and build the project (with a few phone calls thrown in occasionally).  I really enjoy watching him work on one of his projects.  It is amazing how much one can learn just by observing a master at work.  He would have made a fine instructor at some school, and  I consider myself a very fortunate person to have met him, not only for what he has taught me but to have him as a friend.

Since January, Lane and I have become very good friends and get together several times each week to work on projects together or to just talk about machining in general.  It is a real pleasure and an education in itself just watching him at work on one of his projects.

Perhaps you'd like to see just one example of why I consider Lane the finest machinist around.  Just go to his home page that I have constructed to view some of his extraordinary work.  One thing you will see there is a miniature milling machine (duplicate of a Bridgeport) that Lane spent more than a year constructing (this entire work of art is built from scratch-no castings) along with the Quorn Tool & Cutter Grinder which in itself is a work of art.
