Unrestricted Benchrest Rifle
I started this madness when I decided I wanted to build and chamber my own benchrest rifles because the turn around for a chamber job from a good competition class gunsmith took entirely too long and too many problems with shipping. The rifle shown below is shot in NBRSA Unrestricted Class and was built from scrap steel I dug out of a salvage yard (not including the action, trigger & barrel). It is capable (and has) shot 10 shot groups at 100 yards & 200 yards near world records (10 shot groups with less than .150 dispersion @ 100 and 10 shot groups with less than .250 dispersion @ 200). The front rest, rear rest and top rail (the part with the barrel & action) weight in the neighborhood of 200 lbs! There were only 2 like this...the one you are looking at and the one Don Geraci owned. Don is a world class shooter and still holds world records in the benchrest game. The competition preferred the pretty & light rigs (anodized aluminum) but these two big heavy guns would wear them out. Reason being, they would not move around once set up at the bench. Anyway, after winning my share and getting tired of traveling all round the country I started building steam engines and after meeting Lane gasoline engines.
