Chapter 186 - Romance Writers of America
In 1991, a group of writers and authors created a Central Louisiana writers' organization. Since they met in Alexandria, La, the approximate center of the state, they chose the French name "Coeur de Louisiane" because they were in the "Heart of Louisiana."
Coeur de Louisiane is a non-profit corporation which is a affiliated with the Romance Writers of American, Inc. The chapter's goals are to promote excellence in romance fiction; to help writers become published and establish careers in their writing field; and to provide continuing support for writers within the romance publishing industry; to promote and advocate an "author-friendly" environment in the publishing industry; to promote mutual support among members; to be be a strong voice within the romance publishing, wholesaling, and retailing industries; and to strive to maintain and increase the market share of romance fiction.

A business meeting is held at 10 a.m., and a program follows at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Guests may attend two meetings before joining the organization.
(Click here for directions to meeting site.)Coeur de Louisiane schedules authors and experts in a variety of fields who talk on subjects ranging from writing techniques to Civil War and police procedures.

The articles cover a variety of material from writing tips and writing style to information on swords and pistols.
Contest and Conference information is obtained from members, other writers' groups, and the Internet. Members are encouraged to enter their material in various contests in order to get feedback on it. Also, Coeur de Louisiane urges members to attend conferences so they can network with other writers.
Market guidelines are printed so that members can determine if their material can be used in the markets listed or write their manuscript to fit a particular market.
